If i login directly to the host with a vsphere client i get this error when reset sensors

Call "HostHealthStatusSystem.ResetSystemHealthInfo" for object "healthStatusSystem" on ESXi "192.168.5.102" failed..ResetSystemHealthInfo" for object "healthStatusSystem" on ESXi "192.168.5.102" failed.

 

and if i restart the CIM service i get this error:

 

Call "HostServiceSystem.Restart" for object "serviceSystem" on ESXi "192.168.5.102" failed.

 

i also notice that i have this task every minute:

 

Recompute virtual disk digest Completed vpxuser

 

when i try to configue the log file location i get an error on the host with the issue:

 

Update option values A general system error occurred: Internal error

 

if i do the same with the other hosts i get no error

 

when i do this on the host directly i get:

 

Call "OptionManager.UpdateValues" for object "ha-adv-options" on ESXi failed.

Power CLI interesting interactions with Get-Datastore

Running 5.0u2

 

If I want to get a list of the datastores in a SDRS Cluster I get the values I expect, however when I select the value for GB it swaps?!?!?! :

 

$gDSC = Get-DatastoreCluster Tier1_DSCluster | Get-View

Get-Datastore -Id $gDSC.ChildEntity

 

This returns:

 

Name          FreeSpaceMB          CapacityMB

----------          ----------                    ----------

DS1             500000                    1048320

.....

 

This is when it gets weird......

$gDSC = Get-DatastoreCluster Tier1_DSCluster | Get-View

Get-Datastore -Id $gDSC.ChildEntity | Select Name,FreespaceGB,CapacityGB

 

I get this .....

 

Name          FreeSpaceGB          CapacityGB

----------          ----------                    ----------

DS1             1023.75                    500

.....

 

 

Can anyone explain this?!?!?!

NPIV question

Hi All,

I have one question for NPIV setting, I already enabled FC switch side NPIV,  followed the document and generated VM node WWNN/WWPN(options-->fibre chanel NPIV), but after the VM host power on, I tried lspci, I could not see any virtual HBA. Should I created zoning before the VM node power on?   or I need some additional steps?

 

As I understanding, I do not need to create zoning before I power on the VM node, could someone share me the detail steps to set NPIV? My vSphere client version is 5.1,  and the physical HBA is LP12000.

I am glad that it got figured out. I am still surprised that the Brown ports did not work.

It almost seems that they might be disabled or something for some reason.

 

When you feel like playing around with the setting some more, you can reset

the BIOS settings back to the default. That might get those ports working.

Guest os customization. of Solaris is not officially supported by VMware.

So it is not unusual to have issues.

Request: Export Support Request to PDF or other format

As part on internal Incident and Problem investigation tracking we currently include a reference to the VMware SR number. It would however be useful to be able to include a copy of the full SR, including all the notes, analysis, etc. so that people who do not have access to the SR can view the details.

 

Would it therefore be possible to have an "Export to PDF" function on the my.vmware.com portal to enable SRs to be exported? Suggested format would be PDF, but potentially other formats too.

so now dont know if this will help but i gave the host some memory in the system resource reservation from 0mb to 892mb

could this have something to do with the dell multipathing module i have installed (dell-eql-mem-esx5-1.1.2.292203)

Just to get the permissions and roles, I believe there are no tools available.

How do I add a VM that has too many dependencies to be shown as "Map View " ?

When in Table View there is no option to add/remove a VM to an App or to create/delete an App.

 

f.eks. I added three VM's and created an App called "Convergion"

 

Two of those VM's can only be shown in "Table View" because of too many outgoing dependencies.

I accidentally removed the Third VM (the one that could be shown in "Map View") and now I have no way of:

 

1) Adding the third VM back to the App

2) Removing the App or

3) Remove the two remaining VM's from the App

 

So, to create the App again I have to call it "Convergion~1" or something similarilly stupid.

But two of the VM's now still belong to "Convergion" (the now "Zombied" App) as well as "Convergion~1"

 

Any ideas ?

 

P.S. I should be able to create an App and manually add the VM's needed from the vCenter Inventory (Search box or similar) without having to have a "Visual" contact in the Map View.

Some maps get huge and it's not very practical.

Consider this a feature request.

VUM snappin make powershell 3.0 crash

Hi,

i have a script generating report that use vim and vum snappin.

It works perfectly on powershell 2.0 though i have to use it on powershell 3.0 (new cmdlet, browsing remote file system, etc).

Every time the script use a cmdlet from the vum snappin powershell 3.0 just crash (stackoverflowexeption!).

 

the vcenter update manager powercli installation guide only speak of powershell 2.0 ...

is that official, no vum snappin for powershell 3.0?

 

or is that just a bug that have to be reported?

Go this way.

 

Take a snapshot of the VM.

 

Logon on to one of the ESXi where the VM is running and use

 

vmkfstools -i <<parent disk.vmdk >> -d thin <<dest.vmdk>> once done. Browse the datastore and download.

Your right there might be two issue now one your system RAM disk is full and second your Dell multipathing module is causing the sfcbd kill.

 

from the syslog

1) Can you check your RAM disk space whether its full.

# esxcli system visorfs ramdisk list

2) To root cause this issue can you remove your Dell Multipath module and then reboot the host and the check

         a) Ramdisk is freed up

         b) Then check whether CIM Server is running and Hardware Status is populating.

 

To list all installed software

esxcli software vib list

 

To remove the "provider-vib"

esxcli software vib remove -n <provider-vib-name>

I would recommend you to go with full automation and set the options Migration threshold to 3 ( Not agressive)

 

It will load balance and improve performance of VM's
